Entering a Fabric Giveaway

Sometimes I add a comment to a blog that has a giveaway and sometimes I don't. Today, I entered into a fabric scrap giveaway at Fairy Face Designs mainly because it includes fabric from my fabric designer, Momo for Moda. I've mentioned it before right here. Anyway, posting about it on my blog will give me an extra entry and will give you the opportunity to enter too, now that I'm spreading the word!

Sew You Studio

Sew You Studio is my sewing instruction business that I started a few years ago and then put aside as I was given the opportunity to teach at the wonderful Fancy Tiger Crafts store. I've decided to start SewYou Studio again to offer a different set of classes than what might be offered at Fancy Tiger. My focus will be teaching children and moms. So if you know someone who wants to learn to sew or wants to make a few fun projects all while developing their sewing skills, please send them my way. I'd love to work with them!

Oh, BOY!

A few weeks ago Charlie accidentally ran over one of the kids' skateboards with his car and broke it in half. The kids decided it was actually more fun to have a broken skateboard because now they could use it as a launcher. It was a perfect lever and soon enough they were placing things on one end of the skateboard and stepping hard on the other end to launch them in the air. They tried to launch each other but it never worked; they were too heavy. That was disappointing to them all.

Today JP showed me that the idea to launch himself or one of his sisters was still on his mind. He figured out how to slide another one of our skateboards under the porch railing and use it as a launcher. Guess what he was able to launch? Yes, himself! Unfortunately, it wasn't as fun as he had imagined because his feet hit the top of the railing and tripped him up so that he ended up landing on his face. Aww, poor boy! I didn't get to see the launch but heard the cries after he landed--I was working in the garden nearby. He was in pain and pretty shaken up too. Thankfully, he was okay. His cheek was pink but there were no broken bones and no blood. As I was consoling him he said, "That didn't turn out to be so good." I'm pretty sure the launching-people-phase has come to an end.

I had to write about this because as I was comforting him all I could think about was how wonderful it is to be a child (boy) learning about the world and being fearless to try things out. I just hope he never attempts to fly. . .

This time it's Sow not Sew, again!

The raised beds with cold weather crop seeds, take 2.

Two weeks ago I sowed some seeds in our raised beds. Two days ago the sprinkler man was changing up our sprinkler system and turned the soil in my raised beds to remove an inefficient zone. He didn't know I had seeds in the ground because I forgot to tell him. Boo! Honestly, I don't think it mattered much that the seeds were disturbed because the soil was probably still too cold--no seedlings had poked their heads through yet. Now I'm actually happy that the soil was turned so well.

Today I re-sowed the same seeds and, who knows, maybe I'll get a double crop!

French radishes
watermelon radishes
carrots
mixed lettuce
chioggia beets
3 varieties of peas
